Experiential Leadership – Equine
Some of the biggest breakthroughs I’ve seen from leaders and leadership teams – in how they show up – haven’t come in the more traditional forums, but in an arena, with a horse.
Observations
I came to this work without a horse background. I’d never ridden, and didn’t have the lifelong connection with horses many equine facilitators have. What drew me in was quieter – a reflective calmness around horses that slowed me down in a way I hadn’t expected.
As my interest grew, I found myself in an arena for the first time – just me, a horse, and a facilitator. I felt an unexpected sense of safety, and alongside it a pull to look inward at what was really going on.
What the horse showed me, in that quiet, unhurried way, was that I’d been holding back – a hesitation to step fully forward as myself and back myself completely. One of the most honest moments of my leadership journey. No feedback form, no interpretation. Just an unfiltered mirror.
That’s why I trained in Equine Assisted Learning
Who This Is For
Corporate — Leadership & Team Development
Working as part of the LeadChange team, we integrate equine facilitated learning into leadership and team development programmes – creating the conditions for the kind of self-awareness and behavioural insight that traditional approaches rarely reach as quickly.
The horse doesn’t judge. It simply responds. And in that response, leaders discover things about their presence, their patterns, and their impact that stay with them long after the session ends.
LeadChange is a group of professional coaches, facilitators and leadership development specialists, all with corporate backgrounds and a shared passion for what horses make possible. They have been delivering equine facilitated learning programmes since 2002 — psychologist-led, grounded in research, and designed for senior leaders and executive teams.
The Learning Journey
Programmes help participants to:
- Understand how they are perceived by others
- Develop greater presence and clarity in their leadership
- Build trust, alignment, and communication within teams
- Explore new ways of responding under pressure

Why Equine Learning
Horses respond instinctively to human behaviour – offering immediate, non-verbal feedback that cuts through the noise. This creates a unique environment for developing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and
authentic leadership.
It unlocks insights that traditional approaches may not reach as quickly. Sometimes not at all.
